(I haven’t gotten the book, and if I do it’s because I want to read the tidbits about the Mrs. Oh, and about how tyrannical USA Gymnastics was.)
A somewhat vocal consensus is that Jennifer Sey is loopy and we shouldn’t listen to her because her ideas are OUTDATED and everyone is more LALALA HAPPY now than back in those [...]

Here’s a book that’s been on the radar for a while; Chalked Up, the gymnastics memoirs of former USA National Champion and World team member Jennifer Sey, who competed in the 1980s.
Sey was part of the Parkettes gymnastics club, home gym of 2000 Olympian Kristen Maloney, but better known as the lair of (gasp!) the Mrs. It is therefore not surprising [...]

Rick at Gymnastics Coaching and International Gymnast report that Deriugina was indeed suspended from the FIG. She is the coach of current rhythmic World all-around champion Anna Bessonova (UKR), whose emotional win in 2007 halted the seeming dominance of Irina Viner’s rhythmic gymnasts.
Rhythmic fans find Deriugina’s firing to be VERY fishy.
For one thing, it was already [...]

Vladimir Putin isn’t marrying Alina Kabaeva after all.
That’s what BBC said!.
Bet Irina Viner’s disappointed HA HA.
Priceless quote from Putin:
I, personally, consider that our Russian women are the most talented and the most beautiful.

While a few other online sources have picked up on the Putin + Kabaeva story, there has been no confirmation from the Kremlin. No Louis XIV, is he? Anyway, there are people who are angrily denouncing the news as RUBBISH and NONSENSE, and that no such thing is happening.
And if you ask Alicia Sacramone about [...]

I don’t follow rhythmic gymnastics but this cracked me up.
From Blythe at the Gymblog, who got it from International Gymnast.
“Moscow Correspondent” published that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, 55, divorced his wife two months ago, and plans to marry [2004 Olympic gold medallist Alina] Kabayeva, 25, in June.
HA HA d’you think Irina Viner approves?
As Rawles would [...]

I don’t think the Americans sent anybody but THAT’S NOT THE POINT.
The live ticker from Germany said 2007 Worlds medallist Yang Yilin (CHN) collided into another competitor while warming up on bars…and word on the street is that Yang BROKE HER FOOT. Or SOMETHING.
CRAP.
Stand by for more news.
EDIT: If you can read German, here is [...]

The Romanian Scandals Debacle of 2001-2004
After the 2001 World Championships in Ghent, Romanian gymnastics hit some Hard Times, which I affectionately refer to as the Romanian Scandals Debacle. All these crappy happenings just seemed to hit the Romanian program right and left, which was still being shepherded (more like ‘domineered’
by Belu and Bitang. Quite [...]

While this article is Bad News, I did snort at the title. Typical Romanian drama-mongering for you…
Comaneci no longer inspires…etc., etc.
While no one believed Belu et. al when they said Romanian gymnastics was at a crisis point in 2002-2003, I see no reason not to disbelieve Forminte yet when he cries “Crisis!” now.
It’s true that [...]

For some reason they’re calling this the Pacific Rim something-or-other. Oh well.
All right people. Here’s the word on the street on who’s going:
Seniors
Jana Bieger (yay!)
Darlene Hill
Nastia Liukin (eh?!)
WHAT NO CHELLSIE.
Apparently Darlene’s gotten another assignment. That’s more than can be said for poor Lou Stack-Eaton and Amber Trani. But then both of them are injured. (The [...]
