Nadia Comaneci Comedy Sketch

By the inimitable Gilda Radner.

If you have a delicate sense of humor/are overly protective of Nadia’s legacy, perhaps you should not watch it.

Amber Trani, formerly of the dreaded Parkettes, now has a blog of sorts on the UGA gymnastics website as she is one of the most touted 2008 freshmen. While everyone shakes their head over the fact that she didn’t learn a Yurchenko 1.0 twist before a Yurchenko 2.0 twist (seriously?), in the journal(s) she details [...]

You thought that the Chinese gymnast age controversy was scandalous?
You thought wrong – the Dutch do it better.
Triple Full has a series of posts on one of my old favorites, Verona Van de Leur, and the ugly unfolding of her family drama.
To be honest, although this scandal is “yucky” on all levels, I would be [...]

…about the upcoming NCAA season. Sure, a major part of it is that it’ll be Courtney Kupets’ last season, and with Humphrey and Yim gone, there’ll be less to keep me in the NCAA know-all.
I suppose I’ll come out and say right now that I’m rooting more for UCLA. With Tabitha Yim gone, I don’t [...]

Oh really, Stanford?

Even though all these competitions are going on, I am finding it more and more difficult to keep up with everything.
That is why I am glad for the existence of the Triple Full blog and The C Score, which are doing a much better job than I am in keeping tabs on the gymnastics world [...]

It’s been confirmed that Shayla Worley is going to UGA. While everyone is harping about how she was the basically the number one “draft pick”, I am hoping very much that she will not be too much in the way this season. UGA has been all Kupets, all the time (so to speak) for three [...]

This is not about Shawn.

Since everyone and their mom is talking about Shawn’s inclination not to compete in 2009, I will instead point you all to a delightful article about my girl Sandra Izbasa, at the Triple Full blog.
With Stela retired, and the other Romanian girls on the Olympic team injured and recuperating, Sandra is currently going at full steam to [...]

All the hoopla around Nastia, Shawn, and (to some extent) Alicia makes me nostalgic for the quadrennium that had preceded them. Almost all of my favorite American gymnasts turned senior elite in the 2001-2004 era: which, if you’ll remember, included Sacramone and Memmel.
But these two are higher in my regard, and I miss them.

Courtney Kupets [...]
