Speaking of fads, in the world of gymnastics, the only gymnasts who never ever go out of fashion are the Soviets, with good reason of course. No one will jump down your throat if you say, for instance, “My favorite gymnast is Svetlana Boguinskaya,” because even in the rare event that your inquisitors don’t like her, they know that she is a Soviet legend, and therefore her gymnastics, as a whole, is ‘Worthy’. (For the record, I do like Bogi.)
Just something to keep in mind while conversing with gymnastics snobs…always have a favorite Soviet gymnast, which will lend some ‘credibility’ to your perceived taste. For me it’s Bogi and Natalia Laschenova, who was a real cutie-pie in Seoul.

You should do a post on fashionable tricks. I know it all depends on the Code, but it would still make for an interesting post. Like how in the mid-90’s everyone started front tumbling more, and now with the double front bar dismount, and so many others. What do you think the fads are, and what will be the new hot trick in the next quad?
