- Shawn Johnson won. As expected. It put her a bit lower on my preference list. *sigh*
- And OH MY STARS it was lovely to see Chellsie taking third place. She is back.
- Alicia was really quite lackluster at this meet. I know, I know, she doesn’t need to be in top form right now, it’s most important for her to be on the top of her game come Beijing, especially with the fact that her shins were taped up and it looked bad. But still, disappointing.
- Mattie Larson is a surprise; a nice one for most people. I don’t really mind.
- I HATE NASTIA’S UNEVEN BARS DISMOUNT, WHY CAN’T SHE DO IT LIKE DASHA JOURA.
- I get the impression that Nastia is rather babied by USA Gymnastics, even while Shawn is their star. Not that that says anything about Nastia personally (I say: Nastia Forever!), but those silly people need to get off their hotty-totty arses and score people (including Nastia and Shawn) fairly…people like poor Jana Bieger, who nobody likes because her gymnastics is ugly. What a cruel fan base we move around in…
- I also agree with others that Amber Trani should’ve just said “Screw You” to the Mrs. and left. She was in no condition to compete.
In international news:
Kristina Vaculik will sadly not be going to Beijing for Canada. SOMEHOW, Nansy Damianova won the weirdo Canadian system of choosing their girls, meaning that HER coach and not Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs‘ coach (Carol-Angela Orchard, also coach of Peng-Peng Lee) will be going to Beijing with Nansy and Elyse. How screwy, I thought Elyse was ahead of Nansy. Oh well.
i think nastia was judged fair and so was shawn…maybe besides that second bar than nastia did but her knees didn’t touch the ground
NASTIA CAN DO IT LIKE JOURA. god i have seen her stick it in warm ups and practice and podium training so many damn times. the prob is that nastia’s bar routine is 100 times longer and harder than Dasha. if nastia only had to do dasha’s easy short routine, endurance wud not factor in at all and she cud stick it easily. seriously its an easy dismount for nast, its just so freakin hard wen it comes after that rediculously long routine
and i think they were both heavily overscored on floor
and while shawn was overscored on vault, nastia was overscored on bars (could it be that theyre being lenient wwen u have redic starts?? they did that at last year’s worlds
agreed about Nastia’s dismount. i love the double front half but it has been so ugly and it makes me nervous for her ankles everytime she lands so deep. hopefully she’ll get the endurance to do it perfectly like she probably can, she’s got so much height and she twists way sooner than dasha joura. I wish she would cowboy just a little bit less, even if she just opened her knees and kept her ankles together it would look nicer. Her and shayla worely both cowboy the same way. i’d like to see chellsie’s version of that dismount if she decides to throw it.
For part 2…
Sam was following Alicia around like a lost puppy lol.
And the best part of the NBC broadcast was when Tim was going on and on about how Chellsie was not ready and she needs to improve on vault blah blah won’t throw anything more than a full… not only does she do the 1 and half but she sticks it haha even Al made Tim eat his words. priceless.
thanks for the posts
I don’t think that it is right that nastia can score all of her advantage points over shawn on bars. No doubt, she is excellent on bars, but I find something wrong with the fact she can win the all around even though shawn may outscore her on the other 3 events. At least with the old scoring 10 system there was a cap. Shawn could win 3 events, nastia can put up her 17 on bars, and still win all around. that isn’t all around to me, thats one event compensating for 3 events. Anyone else see a problem with this ?
nastia can beat shawn on bars and beam!
no i cant say that i agree yes nastia sticks her dismount in podium training but she does not do it like dasha you have to admit nastias form on that is horrible that is the difference between the two it does not matter that her routine is more difficult she does not float that dismount like dasha. her form is better
Nastia was over scored on every event. She was only deducted from 4 to 6 tenths on every event and you can find that many deductions on her giants, twisting moves or tumbeling without looking at anything else.
Shawn Johnson was over scored but not even close to as much as Nastia was.
Nastia IS babied by USAG and they basically fix it so she can’t lose. Chellsie’s form problems aside (though you could tell she was attempting to fix those this meet) if she puts in the planned upgrades is going to take that second AA spot behind Shawn.
^^^^^^actually nastia outscores shawn on beam. she outscores shawn by 1 point and a half on bars. and her floor is not very far behind shawn even tho thats her worst event and shawn’s strongest
Nastia is milking a flawed system of connection bonuses on bars. They will close that loophole next code. She doesn’t really do any killer skills. Certainly not super hard/risky releases or dismount.
There is no doubt that Shawn is world class on vault and floor. Nastia’s floor routine is graceful and elegant, but doesn’t rival the world-class tumbling shawn shows. I know she hit her routine in night 2, but the 15.850 was ridiculously high. On the world stage I am betting that routine won’t crack a 15.3 if she nails it. Shawn and Nastia are about equal on beam, I don’t think Nastia is clearly better on beam than shawn at all, it really depends on who hits that night. Bars of course is Nastia’s but I just feel like if she were to win the AA in beijing (if memmel doesn’t sneak up and steal her spot) I would bet that she falls behind Shawn on all 3 events besides bars. If this is the case, I find something wrong with calling her olympic all around champion. Just my opinion. I don’t think its right that one event can compensate for deficits on the other 2 or 3.
