(About He Kexin–personally, I wouldn’t be shocked if she were really too young and someone shuffled her birth year. It’s just the sort of thing that the Chinese gymnastics federation would do if it suited them.)
Now then, I finally got around to watching the American Cup for myself. And even with Nastia’s triumph, I was severely disappointed (to put it politely).
-
Dear Stupid American Cup Judges: massive scoring inflation is NOT going to help the girls, because the international judges are going to be tougher on them than YOU are.
-
I watched Shawn falling on her Amânar. And I don’t mean to nitpick, but in my unprofessional opinion, Cheng Fei splats an Amânar better than she does. (Sorry, Shawn.)
-
On the other hand, Sam Peszek is improved. Good work, Sam, that’s all I have to say.
-
Shayla needs to get rid of that stupid uneven bars dismount. Right now, please.
-
Shawn’s face matured. I kind of like it.
-
Paul Hamm is good, but I don’t care.
-
Tim and Elfi’s constant fawning over Nastia was, in a word, disgusting. “I don’t see where they could take a deduction blah blah blah blah…” Even I could tell that Nastia was flubbing up her uneven bars, and I’m not an expert!
-
Al Trautwig has selective memory loss.
-
That Venezuelan girl from the University of Denver was awesome.
-
Poor Alyssa Brown.
And so there you have it. Ugh.
