‘Elegy’ to Kupets’ Olympic Bid

I’m sorry to keep harping on about this, but the gymnastics fan in me is devastated.
The Olympic Effect posted its reaction to Courtney’s injury.

Miss Kupets being carried off the floor by a UGA coach-person
It’s like an Elegy. The author seemed confident that Courtney really was gunning for a comeback after NCAA Championships (despite her denials), especially with Shayla’s shakiness at the American Cup.
[Courtney] was 163 days away from leading the Americans to a big win over the Chinese on their home soil.
Interesting claim.
In all seriousness, I did believe that there was a slot in the Beijing Olympic Team with “Courtney Kupets” written all over it–it was just a question of whether she would take it or not. I believed she wouldn’t, but I wanted her to prove me wrong.
But now, she won’t even have the chance to.
Several fans have speculated over whether it would be possible for Courtney to rehabilitate enough to manage an uneven bars dismount or two–the uneven bars, of course, being the hole that Courtney would have filled. (I don’t think that is really possible, or even healthy.) Others say that even if Courtney were able to manage an uneven bars routine, Martha K. probably wouldn’t consider taking a one-event specialist (have they forgotten Annia Hatch? Gosh!).
The NCAA Championships will be poorer without Courtney Kupets, for sure.
(And, it seems that now I will have to tweak my NCAA Predictions: Ashley Postell will be NCAA All-Around Champion!!)
Is it official that Ashley won’t be making a olympic comeback? If so , that sucks.
