Blythe at the Gymblog reported that Yulia Lozhecko (RUS) who had been kicked off the Russian national team after screwing up her beam dismount at the 2007 World Championships preliminaries (therefore knocking herself out of the event final), surged back to reclaim her spot as one of Russia’s foremost Olympic hopefuls.
Hurrah for her! Lozhecko (or [...]

Take a look at this picture:
I am sure many of you are thinking OMGWTF HOW DID SHE WIN ALL-AROUND SILVER SHE DID NOT DESERVE IT! And you know? I thought the same thing. I used to lump her with Shawn and Vanessa, both of whom I don’t prefer.
Until I got to know a little [...]

The awesome Aussie Dasha Joura has just begun writing a regular column for PerthNow, which is powered by the Sunday Times. This column will run in the leadup to Beijing.
Dasha Joura, Beijing Test Event–Uneven Bars Event Final:
Notice that the byline calls Dasha an “Olympic gymnast”. Apparently, she is Australia’s best hope. Next to Miss [...]

I’m not excited for the American Cup, which is coming next week.
Mostly because I’m not interested in watching Shawn Johnson dominate the meet. Not even if Shawn throws her Amânar vault, which she probably won’t.

I love women’s artistic gymnastics, because it might very well be one of the toughest sports in the world and it looks amazing when it’s well done. But what fascinates me more is the stark contrast between what these ladies do, and who they really are.

We all know Oksana Chusovitina (GER) as the devoted mother who stayed with elite gymnastics out of love for the sport, and most importantly, for her son.
However, she does have another side to her:
This took place in 1995, if you really wanted to know.

If you hadn’t noticed, I’m on a bit of a Romanian Nostalgia Kick right now. Ah, for the glory days of Milo, Răducan, and yes, even Ponor. I was amusing myself watching old videos of her and found that I am really quite fond of Miss Cătălina, or at least her pre-2005 self. She is [...]
